This is my best stock photo. While I haven’t made a sell yet, I do believe that this would be my best selling photo. All of the agencies that I’ve submitted to have accepted this image. I feel that this photo is very fresh and could have multiple uses for someone who purchases this photo.
I took this photo using a light tent and an LED light. As you can see in the before photo, the photo was dark and the fold from the tent is visible. I considered this a throw away photo at first but I realized that I can do a few things to fix up the photo. I used the clone tool in Photoshop to grab the white parts of the tent and painted over the fold. I also brightened up the photo and added a little bit of contrast. I like this photo because it looks completely different from the original photo. The power of Photoshop is real.
I also painted some exposure of the leaves because they seemed a bit sparse to me and I wanted them pop. I also sharpened the plant a little bit because I was afraid that the photo was too out of focus. All in all, I am happy with the way that the photo came out. I’m excited to sell this photo.
All Good Things Must Come To An End
Friday was my last day at Power 106 and to say that I’m sad is an understatement. This place has been EVERYTHING to me this summer. It has been a huge source of happiness for me but all good things must come to an end and that’s ok. Ahhh, I don’t even know where to start when it comes to breaking down my experience at Power.
Let’s start with the beginning, just getting this internship was a huge accomplishment in itself. I couldn’t believe that me, Thalia Dyche, would be a social media intern at Power 106. It was literally one of those “pinch me so I know this is real” moments. Power 106 is such a huge, monumental brand not only in Los Angeles but in SoCal as well. I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t know about Power 106. I remember the feeling when I was told that I got the internship. It was very surreal but I also knew that the next step was to put in work. I went in there with the intentions of being a stand out intern. I wanted them to remember me when I left.
I remember being so excited going into the station the first day. I felt so official checking in with the guard and going over the internship guidelines with the head of HR. Idk I find joy in weird things ok. I was scared and intimidated because I would be working with some big names. I just wanted to make sure that I was doing a good job and killing it at all times. I kinda knew that I could chill out after my first day because we (basically the entire staff) spent hours watching this couple have an affair in a parking lot. We definitely used facebook live stream and had drones out there. It was so bad and petty but I was just like yeah everyone here is awesome and I know that I’m gonna have so much fun.
My day to day included scheduling tweets and blogging then snapchatting interviews when artists were in. Yeah, not a hard job at all. Considering the fact that those things are my passions, I was a very happy little intern. I learned a lot while working at Power but here are 5 things that I learned there beyond the technicalities.
1. Be Kind
You would think that I should have learned this rule in preschool but this principle made even more sense to me while working at Power 106. I was privileged enough to work alongside some important people. It was intimidating to be around well known radio personalities and celebrities at times but the one thing about power is everyone is so kind. Not once did someone use their power and platform as a reason to act better than the next person. Everyone I came across were always willing to help me and answer my questions. It taught me that no matter how far you go in life how far you climb up the ladder you must remain kind and humble.
2. Not Everything Is Black and White
I would have to say that I learned this through the sum of my summer as a whole. I really learned how to open my mind and not just see everything as black and white. I really had to teach myself that things aren’t always one way or another. There’s such thing as a gray area and you don’t have to be afraid of it.
3. You Have The Ability To Make Things Happen
This one is huge for me. I learned that I can make things happen for myself. I got an internship at Power 106 which was huge for me then I was able to perform and do well in it. While at Power, we ran a report on my reach and impressions that I was getting on my blogs and my numbers were awesome. It showed me that I can write for a hip hop audience and be good at it. I even got a few retweets from celebrities out of it. I guess I’m just trying to say that once you find the power that you have inside of yourself and use it the right way, the world is yours.
4. Closed Mouths Don’t Get Fed
Point blank is, I got to do a lot of the cool things that I got to do at Power because I asked for it. You can’t just hope for good things or for the things that you want, you have to ask for them and make them a reality. As someone who hates being burdensome I really had to go outside of myself to learn this concept but it’s true. If you want something ask for it or find a way to make it come to fruition
5. Let Everyone Know What Your Dreams Are
This one is kinda weird but it’ so beneficial. It may be weird or uncomfortable to let the whole world know what your dreams are but when you do that opportunities just find you. One time I was in the break room and talking to this guy about what I’m into so he was like “hey I know a lawyer who could use a social media consultant, are you interested?” It was random but when people know what you’re trying to achieve they’ll be there to support you but they’ll also be knocking at your door when they can use your skill.
I’m sad that my time at Power has come to a close but I know that this isn’t the end. I really grew to love my power fam but I know that I’ll be seeing them and working with again. This is just the beginning for me in terms of working in the industry. I am so grateful for my amazing supervisor who was so supportive and in tune with my dream. I’ll never stop being grateful for the opportunity to work for her and with my power fam. Now it’s time to go back to school and kill it there. Here’s to a brand new, beautiful chapter.
Kaila Dyche’s Senior Portraits
I feel like the title of this post makes it look like I am coming for the class of 2016 but I’m not haha. I’m just kind of in my feelings because my little sister is a senior. WHAT?! I am so proud of her. This little chick has faced so much adversity but she’s still standing tall and holding her own. I had the honor of taking her senior portraits. Portraits are my favorite type of photography simply because I love capturing people’s personalities in photos. I always base photos around people and who they are.
Taking these photos was a little bit of a mission. We couldn’t find the spot we were looking for so we were driving around losing sunlight during golden hour. If you ever want to give a photographer anxiety that’s the way to do it! We ended up settling on this hidden spot on the side of the road on gopher canyon. Looking back, that probably wasn’t the safest idea since gopher canyon is a crazy windy road occupied by crazy drivers but you gotta do what you gotta do for the shot ok?! The photos came out pretty good so it was worth it.
Once again, I am so proud of my sister. I just want her to have the coolest senior year possible, starting with her photos. I had to make sure that her photos were cooler than everyone else’s sorry not sorry. Y’all know I’m a savage. Anyway, here’s to you Kaila. I love you so much and can’t wait to see all of the things that you’re going to accomplish. Here are 5 things that I love about my sister:
1. She is incredibly blunt, she always says whats on her mind (even if it hurts other people’s feelings)
2. She is the most selfless person I know. She will always put others before herself.
3. She inherited all the street smarts, there’s nothing that she can’t figure out or fix.
4. She’s unapologetic about being who she is.
5. She’s a ride or die by nature. You can always count on her to be there and ride with you till the end.
Hollywood Day Party Done Right
Hey guys! I know I skipped a week of blog posts (maybe 2) but I’m trying to be more consistent so I have an exciting post to share! This past Sunday, I got to help out at the Next Radio Pool Party put on by Power 106 at the Mondrian on the Sunset Strip. It was SO MUCH FUN to say the least. I have the coolest internship by far. I mean I never doubt Power but I wasn’t expecting the pool party to be as fun as it was. The point of the party was to promote the “Next Radio” app which is this amazing app that allows you to the radio on your phone without using band with or data. All you have to do is install a chip, super easy.
As most of you know, I am a social media intern at Power 106 so my job was to help cover social for the event. I focused mostly on Snapchat which was a ton of fun in itself. I got to spend my time getting people excited and going up to the radio personalities and being like “hey, I’m covering for Power’s social can you take my phone and record a snap?” My other job was to take photos on my personal camera and Snapchat the live performances. I was able to take my best friend with me which made things a thousand times easier so shouts to her for all of her help.
Did I mention that Kendall Jenner was there? Yeah no big deal at all. I’m used to meeting celebrities since I work at a radio station and I mean I’m a professional fan girl but you can’t help but be excited when Kendall Jenner comes through with her friends. The party itself was a vibe. The music was everything and the weather was perfect. To top things off we had Justine Skye and Kid Ink perform which was so cool. “I’m Yours” is my song and who doesn’t love Kid Ink?? It was so cool that I was able to have my camera on me because I was able to get some cool photos of the event. I’m always trying to grow as a photographer so it’s always cool to try another aspect of photography like event photography.
All in all, the pool party was a success. I’ve been to lots of events in LA but I’ve never worked an event this cool. I’m so glad that my best friend Adrianna and I got to experience that together. Check out the photos of the event below.
Portraits Con Mi Flor Favorita
Do you like how I tied in my Spanglish there? If you know me, you know that Selena and photography are my thing so I’m pretty happy right now. Not even gonna lie the real star here is Flor because she came up with the title for this session. I just ran with it if we’re being honest. Ok friends, who’s excited right now? It’s been so long since I’ve posted portraits but I literally couldn’t wait any longer and now that I have a camera I have no excuse.
So I actually took these photos a few weeks back in Vista but I finally got the time to edit these photos. Can we talk about how beautiful Flor looks? I am dying. She likes to say that it’s my photography skills but I’m just like nah girl that’s all you. So these photos were taken at Guajome Park. I wanted to do a nature-y type shoot because I think that portraits look the best with natural backgrounds but that’s just my personal opinion. Also, I had to work with what I have because it’s Vista and there’s only so many trees that you can work with in a beach town.
I used my new Nikon D5300 with a 18-55mm lens to take these photos. Usually ,I would use a wide angle lens for portraits but I just got my camera so I’m still building my collection of lenses and equipment. At this point I just want to be getting photos out so my kit lens will have to do. As for camera settings I had my f/stop and shutter speed at f/3.5 & 1/125 . I like having a really low aperture when it comes to portraits so I can really blur out the background but these settings worked for this situation. If you want to take some portraits of your own, this article is super helpful. It gives you some tips on how to take portraits.
I had a lot of fun with Flor during this shoot. I love capturing people’s personalities and making them feel like a million bucks with my camera so it’s even more special when I get to take photos of my close friends. Does photography count as a love language because that’s how I like to show my love. Writing this post and editing these photos has reminded me of how much I love doing this. It brings me so much joy. That’s how you know that you really love something.
Thanks for reading this week’s blog! I’ll be back next week with some cool content so make sure to watch out for that. I have a lot of cool things planned for this week so I might put out another one before next week but we’ll see. Before I leave I want to let you guys know that if you ever want me to take photos of you let me know. Photography is my passion so I’m always down. Just let me know.

I’m finally getting around to writing a blog post. I know I promised one a few weeks ago but idk what was up with me to be honest. So I’m writing this post as a life update. I want to be more consistent with this blog and have cooler content especially now that I have a camera but I’ve gotta get this post out first.
So life is pretty chill at the moment. I have 2 internships, one at a social media start up and another one at Power 106. I just do those internships Monday through Friday then go about my weekend in either LA or Vista. I love both of them for different reasons. Social Lighthouse is fun because they’re a fun, new company and they’re all really young. Everyone is so nice and we get to go to events all the time so that’s probably my favorite part about working with them.
Not going to lie I am in LOVE with my internship at Power 106. I get to do a lot of cool things there. I’m creating a lot of content and if you know me I am all about content creation so you can say I’m pretty happy. We’ve had YG, Kiiara, and Lil Yachty come in while I’ve been working which has been so cool for me. Every time an artist is in at the station I get to snapchat the interview on Power’s snapchat. I’m a social media intern so it’s part of my job. I can’t believe that’s even a job, I feel so lucky every time I walk into the station. I just can’t believe that this is what I get to spend my summer doing.
I do other things at Power like schedule tweets which is my least favorite part of being a social media manager if we’re being completely honest. I’ve wanted to learn how sponsorships work with social media so they’ve let me write out tweets for promotion that we’ve had for the BET awards and Hard Summer. It’s really cool because I’m getting to learn how to do things that I am interested in. Once again, I feel so lucky. My boss just started me on blogs so I’ve been writing articles that go straight to the Power 106 website and Where Hip Hop Lives app. As a content creator, I love having my content on an established website. I share the article on my Facebook every time I write a blog so keep an eye out for that.
I’ve been feeling kinda off set lately but as I’m writing this post, I’m realizing that I have no excuse. I am so blessed. I’ve been going home a lot so I’ve gotten really close to my mom and sister. I’m away from them a lot of the time since I’m either in Idaho or LA so I cherish the time that I get to spend with them. I got to see my brother and my best friend Adrianna who both live in Texas this weekend. My heart is so full. My family and my best friends mean everything to me so when I’m with them I feel complete.
I promise to be more consistent with my blog. Once I get started I’m able to keep going so I’m happy that we’re one post down. I know that I’m doing a lot of cool things so I wanna share what I’m doing. I post everything I do on social media but sometimes you need to go more in depth on a blog post. People ask me about how I got where I’m at all the time so I’m just trying to answer those questions the best way that I can. To be honest, I’m still working to get where I truly want to be but I’m always willing to answer questions about how I’ve gotten to where I’m at thus far.
All the love,

Hey there! Welcome back to my really inconsistent blog! I know, I’m the worst when it comes to consistently posting on here. I’ve been kind of putting off my blog because I don’t have a DSLR camera anymore and I feel like I need to have a good camera to make quality blog posts. However, I had an epiphany the other day. I live in Los Angeles and do a lot of cool things. There’s no reason for me not to be posting my butt off. A lot of the times I’m afraid of clogging up people’s feeds with my stuff but as a content creator I should not be worried about that. I’m working on being less afraid to post. How ironic is it that a person with 2 social media internships is afraid to “post too much” I know I need to get with it, I’m trying!. Ok, ok I’m going to give you what you came for. I’m just going tell you guys how I do it because a major key to success *cue DJ Khaled*is to share your secrets and help others. Most of my friends are in college so I feel like this can be helpful. I’m going to tell you exactly how I got an internship at Power 106 and Social Lighthouse. Don’t think that you don’t have to worry about this stuff until you graduate. The more experience the better, trust me!
1. Know What You’re Looking For
Ok guys this is really important before you even think about applying anywhere, KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. You will get so lost in places like Indeed and Linkedin if you don’t have an idea of the type of internship you’re looking for. As a communications major, I have a variety of skills so I was able to look for internships in social media, graphic design, branding, and photography. The cool thing about internships is that it gives you the chance to use what you’ve learned inside the classroom in a real work environment. I’m personally in love with going for the over the top internships at places like Disney and Buzzfeed. I’ve always been one for big names but in all honesty if you get an internship at a smaller company that is relevant to what you’re studying, you’re golden. You just want to make sure that you get credit.
2. Make Sure Your Resume Is Poppin
I’m going to be completely honest here and say that I learned the hard way that if you want people to look at your resume and take it seriously then it needs to be stacked. Last year when I was looking for internships, I had a really hard time finding an internship simply because my resume was weak. The worst part was that it wasn’t even visually appealing and I am a VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS major. Like I said, I learned the hard way. However, once I finished my internship last summer as a social media/artist management intern at JRH Entertainment, I made sure to slap that on my resume real fast. I also made sure to get busy at school. I took a social media practicum 2 semesters in a row which gave me the opportunity to be a social media manager for the College of Business and Communications and the College of Physical Life Sciences. I’m not gonna lie they weren’t the funnest social media accounts to run but they made my resume look real clean. I also made sure to get my act together put my design skills to work so I designed myself a nice little resume along with a matching cover letter. I promise you that just by cleaning up my resume, I had so many more opportunities come my way and companies actually call me back. (Also, get on Linkedin! I’m terrible and don’t use Linkedin I know it’s bad but hey I’m not trying to steer you in the wrong direction here!)
3. Leverage Your Resources I.E. Your Professors and Classmates
This one was HUGE for me. I got really lucky and had one of my dad’s friends pass my resume along to someone at the CW. That was a crazy opportunity for me that came to me just by knowing someone. Always talk about how you’re looking for an internship because you never know who your professors or classmates know. I knew that I was considering doing a photography internship so one day when I was talking to one of my professor’s during his office hours, I mentioned this to him. It just so happened that one of his cousin’s is an actor that lives in LA who works with photographers often and there was a possibility that I could maybe do an internship with one of them. You get the idea. It didn’t end up happening but a lot of the time professors are a huge resource because they’ve been out in the work force and know people. So always stay on their good side because you never know when you’ll need their help. Also, don’t sleep on your classmates they are a huge resource too! When I was interviewing with the CW for a photography internship, I got in contact with the TA from my photography class. I knew that he had just gotten an internship with Universal Studios so I asked him for help and pointers since he was successful in his endeavors. I also reached out to my photography professor because I knew that she would know better than I would about what the interviewers would be looking for. Although I didn’t get that internship I know that they were a huge resource to me and helped me prepare for that interview.
4. Apply Your Butt Off and Apply Early
This is something that I even need to get better at. For whatever reason, I was really intimidated by applying for internships. I think that I let fear get in the way and I really procrastinated redesigning my resume. Anyway, once you know what type of internship you’re looking for apply to every company that is offering that position. Apply everywhere I can’t stress that enough. Apply to places near and far. You never know who is going to want you but you definitely want to create opportunities for yourself. I applied on places like Indeed and Look Sharp. Also, apply early because you’re not the only one applying for internships. There are people out there with better resumes and more experience and you need to be able to compete with them. Although, I have 2 really awesome internships and I’m grateful for them but I know that I could have gotten even better internships if I wouldn’t have waited until April to start applying. I like to complicate my life, suffer through the pain, then come out a winner but that method doesn’t work for everyone and I don’t recommend it.
5. Don’t Think Because You Have An Interview You Have the Job
This will get you messed up real fast. I fall victim to this all the time. I think that because I worked super hard to get the interview then they must already like me and my resume. This is so far from the truth, don’t fall into the trap. Your resume gets you an interview but it doesn’t secure you the job. Internships are real jobs whether they’re paid or unpaid and employers don’t want to invest their time in someone that they don’t think will fit the job. Make sure that you prepare for the interview and come ready to kill it. That means that you need to do your Googles. Look at the company’s website, social media, Linkedin, everything. You need to be prepared for this because they want you to know things about their company. If you know who’s interviewing you it’s really helpful to look at that person’s LinkedIn account before you interview. I know I said that I don’t really use Linkedin but I use it when it’s necessary. Also, after the interview make sure to get the interviewer’s business card or contact information so you can send them a thank you email after the interview. It’s real impressive trust me. How do you think I’m on my third internship?6. Once You Get the Internship, PUT IN WORK.
Ok this is obvious but once you get the internship you better put in work. You really get as much as you give so it’s important to give %1000. This is real life experience and you’re there to learn so you want to make sure that you’re taking advantage of your opportunity. Ask questions. Carry a notebook. Keep track of and save the work you do at your internship because it’s all resume material. Make sure to keep good relationships with your employers because you may need them as a reference in the future. They might even want to hire you as a full time employee so prove to them that you’re worthy of that and that you work hard.
7. Have Fun and Know That It’s Ok to Not Know Everything
I sound like an expert but I am literally learning this all myself. I have to remind myself that it’s ok to mess up and not know everything. I am still in college and I am here to learn. I think that being humble and being ok with the fact that you won’t be perfect at this will help you so much as an intern. I read this book that talked about how your first few jobs will teach you more than you will give them and that’s ok just make sure to do your best and make sure that you’re trying to learn as much as possible.
I hope this helped! I did an internship last summer and I’m doing 2 this summer so I know how this works. I probably missed a thing or 2 but this is what has worked for me personally.
Wango Tango 2016
Ok people, let’s talk Wango Tango 2016! I’m going to be upfront and honest and say that I almost traded this show to see Beyonce but can you blame me? I was blinded by the masterpiece that is Lemonade but it all honesty tickets to Wango Tango were cheaper. Just keeping it 100. I’m glad that I went though because I went last year and you really can’t go wrong with this concert.
To be honest, I’m not really into festivals like everyone else my age. I like seeing various artists at once but I’m just not into EDM like that. I would rather go to a hip hop festival but those types of things don’t really happen in my area. I like Wango Tango because it’s a show for all ages and all walks of life. Another thing that I like about Wango Tango is that it’s a fan girl concert. I mean what do you think you’re going to attract when you have people like Zayn Malik, Ariana Grande, and Fifth Harmony on the lineup and Justin Bieber last year. You’re just asking for screaming girls. I may be hard on the outside but I promise you that I am one of those screaming girls and there is no shame in my game.
I could just say that the concert was everything and end the blog post there but I want to take you along for the ride. So buckle up and get ready because we are about to relive Wango Tango together.
So I got there at about 4 o’clock thinking that the show started at 3:30 pm but it actually started at 5 pm. I was kind of annoyed because I don’t like being early to things I like getting there right when the action starts and I had to conserve my phone battery so I was basically dying for an hour. My life is so hard, I know. Anyway, I waited for the show to start for an hour and when it did I WAS READY. I was there to see Zayn Malik and Ariana Grande and no one was going to stop me. Little history on me, I used to be a One Direction stan and never had the chance to see them live in concert so the fact that I was going to be breathing the same air as Zayn Malik was damn near putting me in cardiac arrest. Also, I’ve met Ariana Grande twice but I’ve never seen her perform live so this was important. I’m crazy when it comes to my faves. I don’t think you guys understand.
The first person up was Demi Lovato, I’m not a crazy fan of hers but I will say that she has a powerful voice and it was fun seeing her perform hits like “Stone Cold” and “Cool for the Summer” 14 year-old me was low key expecting her to perform “Skyscraper” but I know that was asking for a lot. Next up was Alessia Cara and I was surprised because I didn’t know that she was on the lineup. I like her I think that she has a beautiful voice and I like what she stands for which is girl power and being unapologetic about who you are.
Next up was Mike Posner and I literally felt like I traveled back in time when he opened with “Please Don’t Go.” I will say that he is definitely an entertainer, he was getting the crowd hype. Of course he performed “I took a Pill In Ibiza” but an acoustic version so that was cool. From where I was sitting I was able to see which artists were coming up next so I could see that DNCE were about to hit the stage. Not really a huge fan of DNCE but I mean Joe Jonas is my childhood. I think that the Jonas Brothers were the first band that I stanned. Best believe that the walls of my bedroom were COVERED in Jonas Brothers posters when I was in middle school. As I write this post I’m realizing that I was in my feelings this whole concert lol. Anyway, I was thoroughly entertained by DNCE they are definitely performers. During “Cake By the Ocean” Joe effing ran off stage and around the stage all the way to the very back of the stadium all while still singing. First off, I was crazy impressed by his stamina and second of all, I loved that he would want to connect with his fans like that. Hella respect for him.
The next person to perform was Iggy Azalea and I was really surprised that the crowd was going crazy for her. She receives a lot of hate online so it was cool to see the crowd welcome her. She performed “Work” “Fancy” and “Team” I was getting it to “Work” because you can’t deny that that was a bop in 2014. Not gonna lie though I couldn’t really understand what she was saying.
After Iggy, it was time for my baby daddy Zayn Malik to perform. I was screaming at the top of my lungs. I’m a huge fan of his not just because he was once a part of One Direction but because I respect him as an artist. I think that it was incredibly courageous for him to leave a situation that he wasn’t happy in. I love his new album, I listen to it on repeat. Anyway, let’s just say that I was not ok during his set. The girls sitting next to me were fans of his so we were going crazy. However, I have a bone to pick with Zayn. He only performed 3 songs. He didn’t even perform “Pillow Talk.” I know how he is so I didn’t really expect him to be talking to the crowd as much and getting them hype but 3 songs? Really Zayn Jawaad Malik? I forgive him though but I needed to see “Pillow Talk” live.
It took me a minute to recover from being in the same room as Zayn but when I came back to life Kygo was performing. I like him one because he’s hot but also because he’s all vibes. Next was Meghan Trainor and I already know that she’s a killer performer because of last year’s Wango Tango. I think that she’s so cute and it will always be support on my end for her. Believe that I was singing along to “Lips Are Movin.” Mostly because that song reminds me of one of my best friends, Paige.
I’m going to dedicate this next paragraph to this one performer named GWEN STEFANI because she literally stole the show like at the point it was no longer Wango Tango it was “Gwen Stefani: The I Never Left Tour.” Trust me I was just as surprised as you are, I was not expecting this from Gwen especially since she’s been out of the game for a little while. Gwen took me so far back into my childhood and I was not ready for that. She performed “Rich Girl” “Whatcha Waiting For “Sweet Escape” and some others that I forgot, sorry Gwen. Like I said this was her show, the crowd went crazy for her. She is a true performer she literally had the crowd so hype. I wish you could have seen how fast people got up when she starting singing “Holla Back Girl” the B-A-N-A-N-A-S was crazy. Don’t sleep on Gwen because she still got it.
After Gwen was Fifth Harmony and you know me and every other fan girl in the building were screaming for them. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve seen 5H perform live but I am blown away every time. They have crazy energy and connect with the audience every time. If you were watching my snapchat story you might have heard me belting “Boss” “Sledge Hammer” “Worth It” and “Work From Home” with them. Sorry not sorry. I know I’m getting a little old for this but once a fan girl always a fan girl ok. I will never not be a Fifth Harmony fan.
I was actually pretty excited to see the Chainsmokers perform live because “Roses” is everything to me. I don’t even know how I had the emotional capacity to see so many of my faves at once but I was taking it all in. They brought out Daya for “Don’t Let Me Down” and honestly it was a beautiful thing to witness. Vibes, man.
The last person to perform was the one and only Ariana Grande. I think that her vocals casted a spell on me because I don’t remember much from her show all I know is that I was focused. You know I went crazy during “Break Free” “Love Me Harder” and “Dangerous Woman.” I thought that she would bring out Iggy during “Problem” but maybe they’re not cool like that idk. Either way I was happy to reach my goal of seeing Ariana live in concert. I was low key having an anxiety attack because my phone was on 2% during her set and I wasn’t able to get a good photo of her. Like I said, my life is so hard, I know.
Well, that was my 2016 Wango Tango experience. I hope that you had fun enjoying the concert with me. If you were watching my Snapchat story you probably think that I’m a crazy psycho but I feel like you should know that about me by now. It was definitely worth missing Beyonce for. No shade at Bey tho, that just means that I have to work hard at seeing her at the Dodger’s Stadium in September. 😉
Now I Can Identify As Thalia Dyche Photography
These are definitely the best photos that I’ve taken this semester. I went into this comm 316 very intimidated and afraid of my camera and now I’m leaving the semester loving everything about being a photographer. It took a lot of work to get this place but I couldn’t be happier. I know that I’ve made progress this semester but I can’t wait to grow as a photographer. I would have to say that I am a moments/life style photographer. I like capturing moments but I also like life style photography a lot. I really enjoy photographing people and objects in their element. My next goal is to get good enough to photograph celebrities. It’s going to be a wonderful journey.
Here is a link to my pinterest where I find inspiration: https://www.pinterest.com/thaliadyche/
It’s a Forever Thing
Ok this was probably one of my favorite shoots that I’ve ever done. I loved taking engagements for my 2 best friends. I love them so much and the fact that they love each other makes my heart burst. I took these engagements of Paige and Spencer today at the Nature Park in Rexburg, Idaho. We met on Thursday and went over our ideas for the shoot. They’re really flexible so they left the posing up to me. I had a pinterest board ready for inspiration and even added a few photos after we met.
We had our shoot at 6:30 pm because the sun was scheduled to set at 7:48 pm. I don’t like shooting too close to sunset because then you have to fight for light when the sun starts setting. I would say that things went relatively well. They have awesome chemistry and they’re my friends so they got comfortable with the camera quickly. Things differed from my plan a little bit just because some of the poses I planned didn’t work with them, we tried but it wasn’t working out.
After the shoot, I edited their photos in Lightroom. I added a lot of temperature on these photos because it gave it that classic engagement glow if that makes sense. I made sure to shoot into the sun when I took their photos so I could do this in post. I’m really happy that I was able to do my first engagement shoot on my best friends.
Creative Resume Handout
Ok let’s address the last photo. A “T”, LA sign, and dream catcher…how does that even make sense? I’ll explain how. Well, I put the “T” along with my resume because my name starts with “T” and I want to travel the world. The LA sign represents the city that I love the most. I want everything in life that has to do with LA. I’m not going to lie the last one is cheesy but it serves a purpose. The dream catcher represents the fact that I am a dreamer.
I chose this creative resume handout because I feel that it represents my minimalist style. I like lifestyle photography so I feel that this last project truly represents my style. I like creating feelings in photos with simplistic elements. I like to think of photos as moments, and I want to capture all of the best ones.
I would have to say that this project represents me as a photographer because it’s minimal, modern, and relevant. Besides photography, minimalism is also my style of design. I am definitely a stronger photographer than I am a designer but either way minimalism reflects in my work. I try to create the type of art that catches my eye on tumblr and instagram (my 2 favorite social media platforms). I try not to copy other people’s art and embody my own style though. I am also respired by culture and music they move me to create art.
If there is anything that this class has taught me, it’s that I am tougher and more talented than I think I am. I have learned a whole lot in this class and honestly I’m going to apply it to my “T”, “LA” sign, and dream catcher. I’m going to let photography define me and be an element that comes along with Thalia. I’m going to take my photography and let it consume me in LA and lastly, I’m gonna let it be something that I dream about.
I created this creative resume handout in InDesign. Not a lot of people like that program but I personally love it. I think that it’s super user friendly for projects like this and easy to navigate. I basically just placed all of the images on a file. It was nice to have a lot of photos from the semester that I was able to use.
My original intention was to create a booklet but somewhere along the line I used the wrong dimensions so when I went to print, it printed huge. I didn’t have any trouble printing my resume or business cards, just the booklet. It was definitely a bummer but I just had to be creative and make it work.
My inspiration definitely came from this pinterest board. I actually use pinterest every time I need to design something or to prepare for photo shoots. I like to think of it as a creative brainstorming place. I don’t even know if that makes sense but it works for me.
Today I got to do a really awesome shoot and I can’t be more excited about it. A few weeks ago, I came to a party here at Skizzy’s and I don’t know why but I was just so inspired. I loved the couches and urban feel inside the venue and knew that I needed to take photos here. I gathered about 10 seconds of courage and decided to talk to the owner and asked him if I could take pictures here. To my surprise, hr said yes and was super nice about the whole thing. So shout out to Skizzy’s camp. They’re the real deal and have an innovative vision for their company. Also, if you ever get the opportunity to go to a party at Skizzy’s go.
I don’t get a lot of time to do shoots for fun this semester since I’m practically married to my homework. You bet your sweet bottom that I’m stoked about this shoot. As a new photographer I’m still trying to find my style. I know that I like what I see on tumblr but I know that I have my own style to find. I did go for a tumblr theme with this shoot and honestly I’m not mad at the results. I’m used to doing shoots for homework so it was cool but very intimidating to do whatever I wanted.
I guess you can say that I just can’t put down my camera. I just want to continue learning and getting better at photography. I know that there are a ton of opportunities that I can create for myself so I’m going to go for them. Also, check out my brand new logo! I’m excited about that too because it’s part of a rebranding project that I’m currently working on in one of my classes. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to visit my website and read my blog posts. I appreciate it more than you know.
Also, before I peace out I wanna take a minute to thank Yulia and Tianna for letting me take pictures of them. So thank you to both of them.
Architectural Photography – Outside
This was an interesting shoot to do. I don’t have a lot of experience in architectural photography but I’m so glad that I learned this skill. I’ll admit that these aren’t perfect but this was my first shot at architectural photography. I plan on practicing this skill more.
I shot this photo on a tripod but I had trouble keeping it straight that’s why the photo is a bit slanted. I knew that I was going to make this an HDR photo so I took this picture three different times with three different exposures. In post, I used Lightroom and Photoshop to create this HDR photo. The editing process wasn’t bad at all.

Shooting Architectural Inside
This was a cool shoot to do. I personally never thought that I would shoot architectural but it’s definitely a useful skill to learn. I feel like there are certain types of photography that are definite resume builders and this is one of them. I want to get better at architectural photography for sure.
The process for this shoot wasn’t bad at all. I set up my camera on a tripod then snapped the photo. I don’t have bracketing on my camera so I took the same photo at different exposures. One was exposed well, one was underexposed, and one was overexposed. The fun part was in post when I used HDR to edit the photo. I wasn’t too familiar with HDR but now I’m going to use it all the time.
Check out this tutorial I used to create an HDR photo: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/how-to/photoshop-merge-to-hdr.html
Planes and Cars
In all honesty, this segment of photos were the easy to take. You don’t have to worry about posing planes and cars you just have to worry about getting the right angles. I was really fascinated by these planes and cars. They were so beautiful to say the least.
For the last 2 photos my group and I light painted the car and plane. We put our 10 second timers on. Then we changed our camera settings to a shutter speed of “15 and an f stop of 11. When the timer went off we painted light on the objects until the shutter went off. I’m really happy with the end product. Check out these tips about how to take photos of planes: http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2013/08/09/aviation-photography-tips-for-taking-amazing-pictures-of-airplanes/
This was a fun segment to shoot. It was nice to take a break from shooting people and focus on the accessories of this time. I went for a lifestyle feel with these photos. I’m trying to get better at capturing moments.
For these photos, I didn’t use any special auxiliary lighting. I just adjusted my camera settings when I was inside and outside to get good lighting. I tried to get shallow depth with my outside photos. This was fun to do for sure. Shooting in Groups
Taking photos of the groups was the most fun and awkward. It was fun because of the feelings you can create with people. There’s definitely strength in numbers. It was awkward because not all of the couples are couples in real life so they got kinda weird when we would ask them to pose certain ways. It makes sense though, I know it’s weird.
When I was outside I tried to use a lot of shallow depth. I think that it makes portraits look better. I had a higher f stop when I was inside to cater to the auxiliary lighting and indoor lighting. I did simple edits in post like skin softening, iris enhancing, and blemish removal. Women’s 1940s Fashion Shoot
I loved doing the women’s segment of the 1940s fashion shoot. I think that the girls looked so pretty in their costumes. We also got really lucky because each of the models fit the time really well. It made it easier to really get into the time if that makes sense.
I personally had a little trouble posing the models but I just tried to think of ways to pose them that would make them look like they were really in the 1940s. My goal was to make them look tough yet feminine because that’s how the women of that time were. Once again lighting was everything. I used a variety of lighting techniques but the photos with continuous lighting and an orb ended up looking the best. The last photo is my last one particularly because of the lighting.
Mens 1940s Fashion Shoot
I took these photos during an airport shoot that I had with my class at the Rexburg Flight Museum. I’ve heard that this is the funnest photo shoot from the class from previous students and they were definitely right. I had an easier time posing than the women. I’m not really sure why but that’s just the way it worked. It was fun to really tap into the 1940s.
As for the process, I used various lighting on each photo. Depending on the station, I used continuous lighting, orbs, a speed light, and a speed light. Lighting does so much for photos. Although I’m a fan of natural light, the photos with special lighting definitely look better and have more of a professional feel.
